Poringalkuthu Hydroelectric Project:
The Poringalkuthu Hydroelectric Project is a major hydroelectric power station located on the Chalakudy River in Thrissur district, Kerala. The project utilizes the stored water in the Poringalkuthu reservoir to generate electricity through turbine–generator units. Water released from the reservoir flows through penstocks and drives the turbines, converting hydraulic energy into mechanical energy, which is further converted into electrical energy by synchronous generators.
The project forms an important part of Kerala’s hydroelectric power system and also supports downstream hydroelectric projects in the Chalakudy river basin through regulated water discharge.
